Listen to the MUSTN'TS, child,
Listen to the DON'TS
Listen to the SHOULDN'TS,
the IMPOSSIBLES, the WON'TS
Listen to the NEVER HAVES,
Then listen close to me-
Anything can happen, child,
Anything can be. -Shel Silverstein
There's so much negativity in life and for every good idea there's 10 saying "Don't do it". I feel that about My Travel Bug, Inc. sometimes. I think I could just shut down the website and stop putting money and effort into it... We'd fade out as a nice memory in the travel community but I can't shake off this feeling that we're on the verge of a break out. One more day, one more contact, one more dollar and we'll be solvent.
Maybe it's a fools errand but I've never been good at giving up. And so I leave you with one more gem from 'Uncle Shelby':
Draw a crazy picture,
Write a nutty poem,
Sing a mumble-grumble song,
Whistle through your comb.
Do a looney-gooney dance
Cross the kitchen floor
Put something silly in the world
That ain't been there before.

Does this mean there will be no 2005 fellows? Please inform your applicants. We all spent much time on our essays. Thus, we deserve some sort of response from My Travel Bug. The deadline to inform winners (May 7th) has passed. At least post a response to your applicants on your website. Thank you.

Hey Amanda, I know exactly how it feels. The drive and energy waxes and wanes, and then out of the blue, someone gets what you are doing. I think I know what you are doing, and I respect your goals, as well as their manifestation in this site.
Keep it up.

There WILL be Fellowships but not as much as I'd like because nobody seems to donate and we've been rejected by corporate sponsorships so far. It's just hard to keep plugging away sometimes.
The website is cheap to run but we may have to reconsider the Fellowships next year.

Amanda,
Don't give up hope! My Travel Bug is a beautiful idea, and I agree with you that a change can be made one person at a time--I met a girl who studied abroad in Germany when I was 11 yrs old and she forever opened my eyes to the world around me. Since then, I've benn a volunteer with the organization that she studied through, meeting various people from around the world, and studied abroad myself and I've seen it happen. One brush with other cultures, other ideas, and our mentality of world is changed for the better. You may not see the results right now, but they are there.
Just believe!
